The Bread Room Culinary Experience: Bodega Bakes

The Bread Room welcomes award-winning pastry chef, and activist, Paola Vélez. Her debut cookbook, Bodega Bakes, is a love letter to her Dominican heritage and New York City roots, featuring more than 100 recipes that celebrate the flavors, textures, and memories of a life shaped by both family and food.

In this intimate, demo-style class, Paola will guide guests through a live baking presentation of her signature cosmic brownie whoopie pies highlighted in Bodega Bakes. As she bakes, Paola will share stories that bring her recipes to life: the neighborhood bodegas that inspired her creativity, the warmth of Dominican kitchens, and the deeper role food plays in identity and belonging.

Guests will enjoy Bodega Bakes bites and a-la-carte beverages along with Paola’s demonstration, and an open conversation about the joy and purpose that fuel her craft.
